Softball Recap: Pine City Dragons vs. Hinckley-Finlayson Jaguars
Pine City extended their losing streak to nine on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-9 in the process. They fell 13-9 to the Hinckley-Finlayson Jaguars. If the Dragons were looking for revenge after losing 20-1 to the Jaguars when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Delilah Maish was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Emily Stewart, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
As for Hinckley-Finlayson, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-4. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Hinckley-Finlayson's side, Autumn Painovich was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Riley Scott also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Coming up, Pine City will challenge Crosby-Ironton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rangers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.8 runs per game on average), something the Dragons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hinckley-Finlayson, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 7-0 loss against Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin on the 2nd.
