Softball Game Preview: Clayton Comets vs. Willow Spring Storm

The Clayton Comets will face off against the Willow Spring Storm at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Clayton and three for Willow Spring.

Last Thursday, Clayton came up short against Cleveland and fell 5-1.

Izzy Tart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Clayton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haleigh Mohamed, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Willow Spring came up short against Corinth Holders last Friday, falling 9-3.

Lynlee Ogburn was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Carly Simon was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Willow Spring's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Clayton, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 7-5.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Clayton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Willow Spring struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
