Baseball Recap: Desert Vista Takes Down Liberty in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Desert Vista walked away with it. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Liberty Lions a 4-0 shutout on Tuesday. For the Thunder, this counts as revenge for the 7-4 victory the Lions walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Not much got past Hagen Haefs, who gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Liberty off the board. Haefs has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sammy Skinner, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

Desert Vista is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Liberty, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 17-13.

Desert Vista didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 8-4 victory against Millennium on the 8th. Liberty does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
