Softball Recap: Walden Grove Has No Trouble Against Flowing Wells

Walden Grove made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Flowing Wells, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Walden Grove Red Wolves put the hurt on the Flowing Wells Caballeros with a sharp 13-1 win on Tuesday. For the Red Wolves, this counts as revenge for the 15-4 victory the Caballeros walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2018.

Oliviah Valdez and Maya Vivas were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Valdez didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Vivas pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, Valdez gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024. At bat, Valdez scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Vivas went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most hits Valdez has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Natalie Holzer and Isabel Higuera did most of the damage at the plate: Holzer went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double, while Higuera scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most RBI Holzer has posted since back in February of 2024. Liana Acuna was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Walden Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Flowing Wells only posted an OBP of .261.

The win made it two in a row for Walden Grove and bumps their season record up to 2-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Flowing Wells, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Walden Grove will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Amphitheater at 4:00 p.m. on March 19th. As for Flowing Wells, they will take on Mountain View at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
