Softball Recap: Crestwood Extends Road Winning Streak to Three

Crestwood came out on top against Laurel on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run second inning. The Red Devils walked away with a 10-5 victory over the Gators. With that win, the Red Devils brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Grace Harper made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Stier, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Kayleigh Helm, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Crestwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Crestwood's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-14. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Laurel, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Crestwood will square off against Kirtland at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hornets have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Laurel, they will take on Chagrin Falls at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.06 runs per game on average), something the Gators will no doubt try to take advantage of.
