Preview: La Veta Redhawks vs. Kiowa Indians

La Veta has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against The Kiowa Indians at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. La Veta will be hoping to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.

La Veta pushed their score all the way to 54 last Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were the victim of a tough 80-54 loss at the hands of Branson/Kim. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on October 12th (52), La Veta still had to take the loss.

Despite the defeat, La Veta had strong showings from Jessey Montunnas, who threw for 159 yards and six touchdowns, and Brayden Nix, who gained 239 total yards and three touchdowns. Vicente Vallejos also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Kiowa was beaten by Cheraw 45-12 on Saturday. Kiowa has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

La Veta's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Kiowa, they now have a losing record at 4-5.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's matchup: La Veta has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 355.7 total yards per game. It's a different story for Kiowa, though, as they've been averaging only 220.3 per game. Will La Veta be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will Kiowa flip the ?

La Veta strolled past Kiowa in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 by a score of 32-18. The rematch might be a little tougher for La Veta since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
