Softball Recap: Jordan-Matthews' Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Wednesday

Jordan-Matthews dropped their record down to 13-8 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Seaforth Hawks. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, with their most recent loss being a 9-4 defeat last Tuesday.

As for Seaforth, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games.

For Seaforth's part, Emma Grace Hill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up ten Ks. Hill has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Annika Johansson was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Harris, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Jordan-Matthews does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Seaforth, they will face off against Southeast Alamance at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Stallions have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season.
