Baseball Game Preview: West Port Wolf Pack vs. Spruce Creek Hawks

The West Port Wolf Pack will face off against the Spruce Creek Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: West Port has struggled recently with eight defeats in a row, while Spruce Creek will arrive with 13 straight victories.

West Port had taken Interlachen down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Friday. The Wolf Pack fell 8-3 to the Rams.

West Port saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cole Cordes, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Hawks on Thursday. Spruce Creek's pitcher stepped up to hand Viera a 9-0 shutout. Considering Spruce Creek has won 13 matchups by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Garrett Grant, who gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Viera off the board. Grant has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Tyler Boyesen was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Seamus Moylan, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Spruce Creek lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their home run total in three consecutive games.

Spruce Creek pushed their record up to 23-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for West Port, their loss dropped their record down to 3-21.
