Basketball Recap: J.F. Webb Takes a Loss

After flying high against American Leadership Academy-Johnston on Friday, J.F. Webb came back down to earth. The J.F. Webb Warriors came up short against the St. Pauls Bulldogs on Saturday, falling 62-39. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 154th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 37th).

Despite the loss, J.F. Webb saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jasey Lee went 7 for 10 on her way to 20 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals. With that strong performance, Lee is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Mctaja Edmondson, who posted nine points.

St. Pauls' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zhari Shipman, who went 8 of 17 on her way to 18 points along with seven boards and seven steals. That's the most steals Shipman has posted since back in January. Zakoreya Davis was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 13 boards.

Having lost for the first time this season, J.F. Webb fell to 4-1-1. As for St. Pauls, they pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. J.F. Webb will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Louisburg at 6:00 p.m. on December 20th. As for St. Pauls, they will welcome Ashley at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
