Basketball Preview: Clinton Red Devils vs. Emerald Vikings
Clinton has been on the road for four straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Emerald Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
In what's become a running theme this season, Clinton gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Chester 64-16 on the road. Given Clinton's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while the Cyclones are ranked 254th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Clinton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mylayja Thompson out in front who scored 11 points along with seven steals and five assists. Thompson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. McKenzie Clark was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six steals.
Meanwhile, Emerald waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They blew past Union County 56-23 at home.
Clinton is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. As for Emerald, their win bumped their record up to 8-9.
Clinton strolled past the Vikings in their previous meeting back in January by a score of 41-27. Will Clinton repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
