Preview: Jefferson Academy Jaguars vs. Forge Christian Fury
Jefferson Academy has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Forge Christian Fury at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Jefferson Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Saturday.
Jefferson Academy suffered their biggest defeat since December 2, 2023 on Saturday. They suffered a tough 45-21 defeat at the hands of Colorado Academy. Jefferson Academy has struggled against Colorado Academy recently, as their contest on Saturday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Jefferson Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Sofia Pathak, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds, and Elsa Nygren who scored four points along with six rebounds and two steals. Nygren hasn't dropped below two steals for nine straight games.
Meanwhile, Forge Christian earned a 48-36 win over Manual on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Forge Christian.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Forge Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aleeza Olson, who scored 14 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Olson continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Gabriella Geypens was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six steals.
Jefferson Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Forge Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season.
Wednesday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Jefferson Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 30 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Forge Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 34.1 rebounds per game. Given Jefferson Academy's sizeable advantage in that area, Forge Christian will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything went Jefferson Academy's way against Forge Christian in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 as Jefferson Academy made off with a 50-27 win. With Jefferson Academy ahead 23-3 at the half, the game was all but over already.
