Softball Recap: Father Lopez Green Wave vs. St. Joseph Academy Flashes
Father Lopez scored the most runs they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the St. Joseph Academy Flashes as the Father Lopez Green Wave made off with a 23-13 victory. Both teams can probably skip cardio this week after making that many trips around the bases.
Hannah Wilen was incredible, scoring four runs while getting on base in five of her seven plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Kepheart, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of her seven plate appearances.
On St. Joseph Academy's side, Alexa Schenck made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 4-for-4. Victoria Ashworth was another key contributor, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Even though they lost, St. Joseph Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Father Lopez only posted a batting average of .317.
The win made it two in a row for Father Lopez and bumps their season record up to 4-5. As for St. Joseph Academy, they dropped their record down to 2-5 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Father Lopez will face off against Matanzas at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Father Lopez has given up an average of 10.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for St. Joseph Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Johns Country Day at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Johns Country Day has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something St. Joseph Academy will no doubt try to take advantage of.
