The Roosevelt Roughriders will face off against the Eastside Catholic Crusaders at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Roosevelt is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Last Tuesday, Roosevelt didn't have quite enough to beat Garfield and fell 9-8.
Perrie Ausk was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off eight hits. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double.
In other batting news, Eva Lacey led a balanced group of hitters, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. Samantha Wright was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Eastside Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 11-1 to Eastlake. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Crusaders couldn't push the score so high this time.
Eastside Catholic saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maicey Woolston, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Roosevelt now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Eastside Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
Roosevelt's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's matchup. The Roughriders have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Eastside Catholic, though, as they've been averaging only 1.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Roosevelt continue to outrun the ball?
Roosevelt took their victory against Eastside Catholic in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Do the Roughriders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Crusaders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
