Basketball Game Preview: Crownpoint Eagles vs. Newcomb Skyhawks

The Crownpoint Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Newcomb Skyhawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Newcomb took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Crownpoint, who comes in off a win.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Crownpoint faced off against Zuni on Tuesday. Crownpoint came out on top against Zuni by a score of 48-40.

Courtney Craig continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. She has become a key player for Crownpoint: the team is 7-3 when she posts at least ten boards, but 4-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Miley McMillan, who posted nine points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, Newcomb was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a blow against Tohatchi, falling 65-31. The Skyhawks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-16.

Crownpoint's victory bumped their record up to 11-12. As for Newcomb, their loss dropped their record down to 15-8.

Crownpoint came up short against Newcomb when the teams last played back in January, falling 54-49. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Newcomb's Lethia Yazzie, who had 22 points in addition to six boards and five steals. Now that Crownpoint knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
