Baseball Game Preview: Lena-Winslow Panthers vs. Winnebago Indians

The Lena-Winslow Panthers will head out to square off against the Winnebago Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lena-Winslow has three straight victories, Winnebago has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Thursday, Lena-Winslow got the win against Durand/Pecatonica by a conclusive 14-4. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Maverick Cass made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with four RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Aiden Wild was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Cohen Weegens, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Lena-Winslow was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Winnebago came up short against Rockford Christian on Thursday and fell 9-5.

Lena-Winslow's record now sits at 17-6-1. As for Winnebago, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-19.

Lena-Winslow took their win against Winnebago when the teams last played back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 10-4 score. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
