Hilton Head Island extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 8-14 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Philip Simmons Iron Horses. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Seahawks have suffered since March 12th.
Hilton Head Island got a good showing from Connor Wiendl, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits Wiendl has allowed since back in March.
On the hitting side, Hilton Head Island saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Slater Alsobrook, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double. Kyle Larson was another, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
As for Philip Simmons, they moved to 11-11 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since March 20th.
On Philip Simmons' side, Charlie Helms and Nolan Clifford made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Helms tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Clifford struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Helms also tossed a walk, which is notable because Philip Simmons is 4-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-9 otherwise. At the plate, Helms went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Clifford went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, Kyle Bachmann was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
While Hilton Head Island had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
