Baseball Game Preview: Dirigo Cougars vs. Cony Rams

The Dirigo Cougars will venture away from home to challenge the Cony Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dirigo will be strutting in after a win while Cony will be coming in after a defeat.

Dirigo will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Winthrop, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Cougars came out on top against the Ramblers by a score of 6-1 on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Ramblers: they've now won three in a row.

Trevor Crosby made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in June of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Dirigo: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, Ty LaPointe was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Caden Hutchinson, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Cony faced Monmouth Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Rams fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 12-11. The Rams have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Dirigo picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 3-6. As for Cony, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2.
