Volleyball Recap: Romeoville Spartans vs. Waubonsie Valley Warriors
Romeoville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Waubonsie Valley Warriors. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 2-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Romeoville sadly dropped the once that decided the match. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 21-25, 25-16.
Cei'Montay Hopkins paced Romeoville's offense, picking up eight kills. Hopkins got some help from Szymon Rutkowski and his nine assists. Jack Johnson controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.
Romeoville's loss dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Waubonsie Valley, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Coming up, Romeoville will face off against Oswego East at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Waubonsie Valley, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 win against Metea Valley on the 22nd.
