Football Recap: El Capitan Piles Up the Points Against Mendota

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely El Capitan's strategy against Mendota on Wednesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Gauchos blew the Aztecs out of the water with a 47-0 final score. The Gauchos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 25 points or more this season.

Aaliyah Simonian had another great game (as she tends to do), rushing for 125 yards and three TDs on only five carries. Those 125 rushing yards gave her a new career-high. Isabella Magana was in the mix too, providing El Capitan with two touchdowns.

El Capitan didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Avnoor Bains, Madysen Dietz, and Keely Castillo picked up one apiece. Castillo also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with six.

El Capitan's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.0 points over those games. As for Mendota, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Coming up, El Capitan will square off against Ripon at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Mendota, they will challenge Merced at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bears' defense has only allowed 10.7 points per game this season, so the Aztecs' offense will have their work cut out for them.
