Basketball Game Preview: Fremont Tigers vs. Grand Island Islanders

Fremont hasn't had much luck against Grand Island recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Fremont Tigers will venture away from home to square off against the Grand Island Islanders at 6:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Fremont took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They secured a 58-53 W over Norfolk.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Grand Island). They managed a 61-56 victory over Omaha South on Saturday. With that win, the Islanders brought their scoring average up to 51 points per game.

Grand Island's win came from a few key players Fremont will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Victor Fisher Jr, who went 9 for 15 on his way to 24 points and six rebounds. He is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Babur Choul, who posted 18 points and three steals.

The victory got Fremont back to even at 5-5. As for Grand Island, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-7.

Fremont came up short against Grand Island in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 66-53. Can Fremont avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
