Baseball Game Preview: Great Bridge Wildcats vs. Lakeland Cavaliers

Great Bridge has gone a perfect 10-0 against Lakeland recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Wildcats will take on the Cavaliers at 5:45 p.m. Great Bridge's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Lakeland's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Great Bridge is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Hickory with a sharp 16-2 win on Tuesday. The Wildcats have beaten the Hawks the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Hawks has come to flipping the script.

Brody Comparto was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Comparto was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Great Bridge let Cole Cinnamomd and Casey Cuddyer run wild. Cinnamomd went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Cuddyer went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave Cinnamomd a new career-high. Ryder Harrell also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Great Bridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Lakeland hadn't done well against Nansemond River recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Cavaliers came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 10-6. Surprisingly, this marked the Cavaliers' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Great Bridge's record now sits at 9-5. As for Lakeland, their record is now 8-4.

Everything went Great Bridge's way against Lakeland when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Great Bridge made off with a 6-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
