Softball Recap: Great Bend Takes a Loss

Fans were treated to a battle of the Panthers on Friday. Great Bend took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Derby. Great Bend was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Derby apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Great Bend saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Callie Umphres, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Great Bend and nudges their season record down to 11-3. As for Derby, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-1.

Coming up, Great Bend will take on Northwest at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Grizzlies have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season. As for Derby, they are taking a road trip to challenge Dodge City at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers are facing the Demons at the right time seeing as the Demons are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
