Basketball Recap: Jefferson Wins High-Profile Match Against Shepherd

On Saturday, Jefferson faced Shepherd in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Jefferson Panthers managed a 60-56 win over the Shepherd Mustangs. This was a revenge game for the Panthers: when they faced off against the Mustangs back in December of 2024, they had to take a 51-33 loss.

Jefferson was led to victory by Ryian Eveland and Cameron Toney. Eveland shot 71% from the field to rack up 21 points and seven rebounds, while Toney went 7-for-14 en route to 23 points and three steals. The contest was Eveland's third in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Michaela Morris, who posted six points and five assists.

Jefferson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Jefferson has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season. This is the second loss in a row for Shepherd and nudges their season record down to 17-4.

Jefferson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 41-39 victory against Ennis on the 8th. Shepherd does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
