Football Preview: Gordon Central Warriors vs. Fannin County Rebels

Gordon Central is 0-4 against Fannin County since October of 2020 but things could change on Friday. The Gordon Central Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Fannin County Rebels at 7:30 p.m. After both made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Friday.

Gordon Central will head into Friday's match after some sweet revenge against Coosa: Gordon Central couldn't quite topple Coosa on Friday, but it was still a huge improvement compared to the 27-point loss they took when the two last played. Nathan Johnson had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Gordon Central was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 215 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coosa only rushed for 104.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Gordon Central's defense and their four sacks. Johnson was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up twohimself. Gordon Central got some further help from Riley Thomas: he made 17 total tackles and snagged an interception.

Meanwhile, Fannin County put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Dade County 44-0 on the road. That 44 point margin sets a new team best for the Rebels this season.

Fannin County's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Carson Callihan, who gained 231 total yards and three touchdowns, and Lawson Sullivan, who rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Callihan is also on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last four games he's played dating back to last season.

Fannin County's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged six passes before it was all said and done. Tucker Dockery and Braxton Cheatham were the leaders of the group effort as each produced two apiece. Cj Reece was another major factor on D, making 12 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

Gordon Central's victory ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-2. As for Fannin County, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0.
