Baseball Game Preview: Mossyrock Vikings vs. Onalaska Loggers

For the second straight game, Mossyrock will face off against Onalaska. The Vikings will challenge the Loggers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Mossyrock took a 11-run loss the last time they faced off against Onalaska, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Vikings had just enough and edged out the Loggers 6-5. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Vikings as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Easton Kolb was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. He is becoming a predictor of Mossyrock's success: when he posts at least ten strikeouts the team is 3-1 (and 3-6 when he doesn't). Kolb was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with six stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those six stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kevin Mitchell, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Wylde Greisen, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run.

Mossyrock's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Onalaska, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-8.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mossyrock has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Onalaska struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
