Baseball Recap: Santa Teresa Saints vs. Westmont Warriors
Santa Teresa had lost seven straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 10-13 to make it eight. They came up short against the Westmont Warriors, falling 7-0. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Saints' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Santa Teresa saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andres Cedillo, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
As for Westmont, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-19-1. They not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 8th (when they won 11-0).
On Westmont's side, Peyton Hines made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Hines has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Westmont is 2-1 when Hines posts three or more hits, but 3-18-1 otherwise.
In other batting news, Roman Soto was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Xavier Mizer also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Santa Teresa will challenge rival Christopher at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Westmont is set to square off against their familiar foe Willow Glen at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
