Softball Recap: Callisburg Wildcats vs. Ponder Lions
Callisburg had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-14 to make it eight. They came up short against the Ponder Lions, falling 18-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-2 back in March.
As for Ponder, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.
For Ponder's part, Vada Cochrum was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Cochrum has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Skylar Kysiak was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Skyler Medders, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
As of now, neither Callisburg nor Ponder have any future games scheduled.
