Softball Game Preview: Bishop Kenny Crusaders vs. First Coast Buccaneers

The Bishop Kenny Crusaders will challenge the First Coast Buccaneers at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Bishop Kenny was able to grind out a solid win over Fernandina Beach, taking the game 5-1. The Crusaders haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Bishop Kenny's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Michelle Jones, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Bishop Kenny hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 3-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Meanwhile, First Coast had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over Sandalwood on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Buccaneers have posted since April 5, 2024.

Carmen Overstreet made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Baylee Williams was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

Bishop Kenny's victory bumped their record up to 6-11. As for First Coast, their win bumped their record up to 6-9.

Bishop Kenny came out on top in a nail-biter against First Coast in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Crusaders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Buccaneers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
