Baseball Recap: Lamar Drops Highest Score of Season Against St. Mary's

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lamar). They were the clear victors by a 19-1 margin over the St. Mary's Pirates on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Thunder, who have now won eight matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Axton Morales was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double.

In other batting news, Alex Aguilar was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Cael Buxton, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Lamar always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .628. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Lamar has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for St. Mary's, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-10.
