Basketball Recap: Cardinal Newman Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Cardinal Newman couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a 67-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Clovis East Timberwolves. The Cardinals have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.

Several Cardinals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tatum Kurpinsky, who went 6-for-11 on his way to 20 points and six boards. The game was Kurpinsky's fourth in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of AJ Cole, who posted 16 points.

Even though they lost, Cardinal Newman smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in 11 consecutive contests.

Cardinal Newman's defeat dropped their record down to 26-7. As for Clovis East, their victory bumped their record up to 20-10.
