Baseball Game Preview: Alba-Golden Panthers vs. Big Sandy Wildcats

The Alba-Golden Panthers will head out to square off against the Big Sandy Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Alba-Golden knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Big Sandy likes a good challenge.

Alba-Golden's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Yantis with a sharp 15-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Owls: they've now won five in a row.

Easton Samples and Brett Sutton did most of the damage at the plate: Samples scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Sutton went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave Sutton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cason Boyd, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Alba-Golden always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .567 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Big Sandy fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Como-Pickton on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 6-5. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Logan Brown was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing five bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

Alba-Golden's win bumped their record up to 12-6. As for Big Sandy, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.

Alba-Golden beat Big Sandy 5-0 in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
