Basketball Game Preview: Chambers Cougars vs. Mallard Creek Mavericks

The Chambers Cougars will square off against the Mallard Creek Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

It was a proper cat-fight when Chambers challenged West Charlotte on Tuesday. Chambers took a blow against West Charlotte, falling 59-29. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-10.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mallard Creek). They claimed a resounding 86-7 victory over West Mecklenburg. The Mavericks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 matchups by 23 points or more this season.

Chambers better keep an eye on Elle Stone. She was instrumental in Mallard Creek's win, going 9 for 11 to rack up 19 points and three steals. What's more, Stone also posted a 82% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was My'Asia Young, who went 5 of 8 en route to 10 points and four steals.

Mallard Creek was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Mallard Creek's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 35.6 points. As for Chambers, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-16.

Chambers took a serious blow against Mallard Creek when the teams last played back in January, falling 73-31. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mallard Creek's Kiara Anderson, who went 13 for 19 on her way to 33 points and six steals.
