Football Preview: St. Joseph-by-the-Sea Vikings vs. St. John the Baptist Cougars        
        
		
             St. Joseph-by-the-Sea and St. John the Baptist are an even 4-4 against one another  since October of 2014, but  not for long. The St. Joseph-by-the-Sea Vikings are on the road again  on Saturday to play the St. John the Baptist Cougars at 1:30  p.m. St. Joseph-by-the-Sea will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more  points each  contest than the last.
 Last Friday, St. Joseph-by-the-Sea was fully in charge, breezing past Kennedy Catholic 35-7 on the road. Given the Vikings' advantage  in MaxPreps' New York football rankings  (they are ranked 77th, while the Gaels are ranked 463rd), the result  wasn't entirely unexpected.
 It was another big night for  Tommy Digregorio, who rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries.
 Meanwhile,  a  win for St. John the Baptist just wasn't in the cards  on Friday as the  squad wasn't able to take the lead at any point. They lost  34-13 to St. Anthony's. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at  21-0.
 The match pitted two dominant  signal callers against one another in  Maxwell Bowers and  Gary Merrill. Merrill had a great game and rushed for 197 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries. Meanwhile,  Bowers did his best for the losing side, rushing for 95 yards and a touchdown, while also throwing for 112 yards  on nine of 21 attempts.
 St. Joseph-by-the-Sea has  been performing  well recently as they've  won five of their last six matchups,  which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record  this season. As for St. John the Baptist, they dropped their record down to 2-5 with the  defeat, which was their third straight  on the road.
 Everything came up roses for St. Joseph-by-the-Sea against St. John the Baptist when the teams last played  back in September of 2019, as the  team secured  a  36-7 victory.
