Basketball Recap: Brian Mcmahon Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Westlake

Chopticon won the last time they faced Westlake and things went their way on Friday too. The Chopticon Braves came out on top against the Westlake Wolverines by a score of 60-50.

Chopticon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brian McMahon out in front who posted 12 points and six boards. McMahon is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Bryson Fenwick was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Chopticon was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westlake only posted nine assists.

Several Wolverines players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ethan Minkah, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 11 points along with seven boards and four steals. Another player making a difference was Tyrek Jordan, who put up 16 points.

Chopticon is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points per game. As for Westlake, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.

Chopticon and Westlake could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings. Chopticon (ranked 160th) will meet Lackey (ranked 49th) at 6:30 p.m. on January 31st. Meanwhile, Westlake will challenge Northern at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday down 140 places (238 vs. 98).
