Baseball Recap: Cayuga Victorious

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Cayuga and LaPoynor, and Cayuga kept the tradition alive. The Wildcats walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Flyers on Wednesday. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 5-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Gus Wilfong made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, Micah Redwine was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Cayuga's record is now 18-8. As for LaPoynor, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-12.

Cayuga will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Flyers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
