Baseball Recap: Hoxie Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Newport, Hoxie was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the Delta Chargers by a score of 11-8. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Mustangs' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Mack Slaughter was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5. He has become a key player for Hoxie: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, Mattox Glenn and Christian Nichols did most of the damage at the plate: Glenn scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Nichols scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Those three runs gave Glenn a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Neely, who scored a run and stole four bases while going 1-for-5.

Hoxie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .565. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Hoxie's victory bumped their record up to 4-5.

Hoxie and Delta will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time Hoxie sees the field they'll take on White County Central at 4:30 p.m. on the 31st. As for the Chargers, their break will end when they face the Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. on the 31st.
