Baseball Recap: Elk Lake Starts off Right with Win over Canton

Elk Lake had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past Canton 13-1 on Friday. Elk Lake has seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw Canton, too.

Braydon McMicken made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. McMicken was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Dawson Sherman looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

Back at the plate, Lucas Benscoter was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Devin Lawrence, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.

Coming up, Elk Lake will venture away from home to take on Honesdale at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Canton, they will welcome Sayre at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The contest will give Canton their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season.
