Baseball Recap: Salinas' Luck Changes for the Better on Saturday

Salinas's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Aptos Mariners. The win was some much needed relief for the Cowboys as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Zachary Velasquez looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Salinas' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 4-9 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Dezmond Corn was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. Jordan Isla was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Salinas' victory bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Aptos, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-10.

Coming up, Salinas is taking a road trip to take on Monterey at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Aptos, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against San Lorenzo Valley at 4:00 p.m. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.8 runs per game on average), something the Mariners will no doubt try to take advantage of.
