Preview: Mogollon Mustangs vs. Williams Vikings
The Mogollon Mustangs will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Williams Vikings at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Mogollon's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last five matchups.
Last Friday, Mogollon got themselves on the board against Joseph City, but Joseph City never followed suit. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Wildcats 57-0 on the road. The result was nothing new for Mogollon, who have now won five contests by 34 points or more so far this season.
Mogollon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rocky Porter, who rushed for 102 yards on only eight carries. Kyson Owens was another key contributor, throwing for 25 yards and two touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Williams faced El Capitan/Centennial Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Williams had to suffer through a rough 60-8 loss at the hands of El Capitan/Centennial Academy. Williams has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mogollon's victory lifted them to 5-2 while Williams' loss dropped them down to 3-4.
Everything came up roses for Mogollon against Williams when the teams last played two weeks ago as the squad secured a 54-20 victory. Does Mogollon have another victory up their sleeve, or will Williams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
