Baseball Game Preview: Chapin Eagles vs. River Bluff Gators

For the second straight game, Chapin will face off against River Bluff. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Gators at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Chapin 3.7, River Bluff 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Chapin is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Carolina's top teams: River Bluff, who was ranked eighth at the time (Chapin was ranked 22nd). The Eagles blew past the Gators 9-3 on Tuesday. The game marked the Eagles' most dominant win of the season so far.

Ty Harper was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Weston Plotner, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cambell Todd, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Chapin is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for River Bluff, the defeat snapped their winning streak at ten games and leaves them with a 11-2 record.
