Baseball Recap: Marshall Wins Going Away Against Lincoln

Marshall won the last time they faced Lincoln and things went their way on Friday too. The Barristers put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 16-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Barristers.

Emmett Plath looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had over his last three matches.

At the plate, Andrew Torres and Israel Guerrero did most of the damage at the plate: Torres went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Guerrero scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three runs gave Guerrero a new career-high. Brandon Bernal was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI.

Marshall kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.6.

Marshall's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Lincoln, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

Marshall didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 3-2 victory against South Gate on the 12th. As for Lincoln, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Franklin at 3:00 p.m. on the 21st.
