Basketball Recap: Dariel Liranzo's Big Game Can't Quite Lead New Milford over Mahwah

After a string of three wins, New Milford's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell 73-64 to the Mahwah Thunderbirds. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (57), the Knights still had to take the loss.

Several Knights players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dariel Liranzo, who posted 24 points and four steals. That's the most points Liranzo has posted since back in December of 2024. Luis Placido was another key player, putting up 22 points and seven rebounds.

New Milford's loss dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Mahwah, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 11-3.

When New Milford and Mahwah next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. New Milford will try to stop Manchester Regional's 15-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Similarly, Mahwah will challenge Pascack Hills and their ten-game winning streak at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
