Volleyball Recap: Plainville Takes a Loss

If Plainville was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Northwest Catholic on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Blue Devils took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Berlin Redcoats on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their meetings with the Redcoats: they've now lost five in a row.

Plainville started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 26-28, 25-18, 25-22, 25-19.

Cyriah Bernard paced Plainville's offense, picking up nine kills. Bernard got some help from Mia Palia and her ten assists. Evelyn Jimenez controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.

Berlin was led to victory by Ava Gombotz and Mya Lamoureux. Gombotz had 29 digs, while Lamoureux had 28 assists and 11 digs. Those 29 digs gave Gombotz a new career-high. Shea Carlson also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

Plainville's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Berlin, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-1.

Plainville has already played their next matchup, a 3-2 defeat against Wethersfield on the 29th. As for Berlin, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Platt on the 29th.
