Baseball Game Preview: Mulberry Panthers vs. Fort Meade Miners

Mulberry hasn't had much luck against Fort Meade recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Mulberry Panthers will take on the Fort Meade Miners at 7:00 p.m. Mulberry will be strutting in after a victory while Fort Meade will be coming in after a defeat.

Mulberry took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Discovery 4-3.

Coby Anker tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, Brock Thielen and AJ Medina did most of the damage at the plate: Thielen scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Medina scored a run while going 1-for-2. Thielen is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Gavin Stedman was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Fort Meade unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 7-4 to Santa Fe Catholic.

Andrew Brooks was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Brooks was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Brooks wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Eli Harrell, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Fort Meade's loss dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Mulberry, their record is now 8-3.

Mulberry couldn't quite get it done against Fort Meade when the teams last played back in April of 2023 as they fell 4-0. Can Mulberry avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
