Basketball Recap: Riverside-Durham Comes Up Short

Riverside-Durham was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 69-53 bruising from the Durham Academy Cavaliers. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 358th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 141st).

Durham Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was JJ Wilcox out in front who made all 6 shots he took for 15 points along with seven boards and three steals. Wilcox is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of PJ Jeffries, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Riverside-Durham's defeat dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Durham Academy, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Riverside-Durham will face off against Hillside at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Hillside is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.9 points per game this season. As for Durham Academy, they will challenge Cary Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 14th.
