Soccer Game Preview: Lakewood vs. Boca Ciega

The Lakewood Spartans will venture away from home to square off against the Boca Ciega Pirates at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.

Lakewood is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to five goals on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Admiral Farragut on Thursday. They lost 8-0 to the BlueJackets. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 490th, while the BlueJackets are ranked 196th).

Meanwhile, Boca Ciega was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They came up short against Northeast, falling 7-0.

Boca Ciega's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Lakewood, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 1-8-1 record this season.

Lakewood came up short against Boca Ciega in their previous matchup back in January, falling 2-0. Can Lakewood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
