Basketball Game Preview: Doherty Spartans vs. Pine Creek Eagles

Doherty has gone 8-2 against Pine Creek recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Doherty Spartans will venture away from home to challenge the Pine Creek Eagles at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Doherty's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 11 contests.

Doherty is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Vista Ridge: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Doherty blew Vista Ridge out of the water with a 78-43 final score. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Wolves are ranked 167th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Elijah Mack, who went 9 for 14 en route to 22 points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists. His evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Gavin Gilbert, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 14 points and seven boards.

Meanwhile, Pine Creek was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 82-78 to Rampart.

Doherty's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-7. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.6 points per game. As for Pine Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.

Doherty beat Pine Creek 74-63 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Doherty since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
