Basketball Recap: Calaveras Takes a Loss

It was a good run, but Calaveras unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Bret Harte Bullfrogs by a score of 60-57. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Red Hawks have suffered since November 28, 2023.

Despite the defeat, Calaveras saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cohen Curran went 7 for 8 on his way to 18 points along with six boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Josh Manzo, who posted eight points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Calaveras smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive matches.

Calaveras' loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 12-8. As for Bret Harte, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-5.

Calaveras will head out to challenge Linden at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Linden is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.3 points per game this season. As for Bret Harte, they will square off against Riverbank at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Bret Harte is facing Riverbank at the right time seeing as Riverbank is stuck on an 18-game losing streak.
