Softball Recap: Winnsboro Raiders vs. Hooks Hornets

Winnsboro and Hooks squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Winnsboro had to settle for second. They lost 17-7 to the Hooks Hornets. Winnsboro's loss continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Lilly Rulison was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Stansbury, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

On Hooks' side, Kinsley Birdwell made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. Birdwell has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than six innings in six consecutive pitching appearances. Birdwell was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-5.

Winnsboro's defeat dropped their record down to 18-10-1. As for Hooks, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 25-5-1.

Winnsboro does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hooks, they are on the road again on Thursday to play White Oak. Hooks will be hoping to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
