Xaverian hasn't had much luck against St. Dominic recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Clippers will be playing at home against the Bayhawks at 11:00 a.m.
On Wednesday, Xaverian didn't have quite enough to beat Monsignor McClancy and fell 5-3.
Jordan Steiger was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
On the hitting side, Xaverian saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Zafra, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one double. That double was Zafra's first of the season. Another was Danny Cronin, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, St. Dominic waltzed into their game on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Firebirds with a sharp 15-5 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bayhawks considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Ray Kim was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Cristian Moreno was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Chris Vangelatos was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs.
St. Dominic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Xaverian now has a losing record of 7-8. As for St. Dominic, their win bumped their record up to 12-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Xaverian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like St. Dominic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Xaverian came up short against St. Dominic when the teams last played back in April of 2023, falling 4-1. Will the Clippers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
